A drive to cull over 1.60 lakh poultry birds at five poultry farms commenced in Haryana s Panchkula district on Saturday, officials said.
The move comes after samples of some birds in two poultry farms at Kheri and Ganauli villages in Panchkula tested positive for the H5N8 strain of avian flu on Friday. ....

Over 1.60 lakh birds at five poultry farms in Haryana s Panchkula district are set to be culled after some samples tested positive for bird flu, Agriculture Minister JP Dalal said on Friday.
The minister told reporters that they had sent samples from two Panchkula poultry farms to Bhopal for testing.
Five samples of Siddharth Poultry Farm at Kheri village in Raipur Rani block of Panchkula tested positive for H5N8 strain of avian flu, Mr Dalal said.
Similarly, samples of some birds from Nature Poultry Farm at Ganauli village tested positive, he said, adding that it necessitated the culling of birds at poultry farms within 1 km of both establishments. ....

Monitor 12 epicentres to curb avian flu, Centre tells states | India News

NEW DELHI: With cases of avian influenza being reported from different states, the Centre on Wednesday alerted local authorities to mount surveillance on 12 epicentres, including the highest four in Kerala where thousands of birds died in the past few days, and asked them to step up containment measures.
Though there are no reported human cases of avian influenza in India till date, the health ministry asked states to take all measures to prevent its spread saying the infection is highly pathogenic and can transmit to humans.
“It is absolutely critical that measures for effective containment among bird/poultry population and active surveillance in human population has to be ensured,” said health secretary Rajesh Bhushan in his letter to state chief secretaries. The ministry has deployed multi-disciplinary teams at Alappuzha and Kottayam districts in Kerala, and Panchkula in Haryana. ....

Haryana: Panchkula admin bans sale of crackers till Jan 2

Panchkula (Haryana) [India], December 31 (ANI): Ahead of New Year s celebrations, Panchkula District Magistrate on Wednesday issued an order banning the sale of crackers till January 2, 2021.
As per the official notification, the ban was imposed under the direction of the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
Only green crackers can be busted in open spaces on the auspicious occasion of New Year from 11.55 pm on December 31, 2020, to 12.30 am on January 1, 2021.
The administration said strict actions will be taken under sections 30 and 34 of the Disaster Management Act 2005 against those who violate these orders. (ANI) ....
