SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Feb. 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The Emergency Nurses Association on Monday issued a letter of support for the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act of 2021 following its introduction in the House by Rep. Joe Courtney.
The bill would require, among other things, health care and social service employers to develop and implement a comprehensive workplace violence prevention plan which must include procedures to identify and respond to risks that make health care facilities, such as emergency departments, vulnerable to violent incidents. Five injured in shooting at healthcare clinic in Buffalo, Minnesota

One of the five people injured in a shooting inside Allina Health Clinic in Buffalo, Minnesota has died, according to local NBC affiliate Kare11. The victim has not yet been identified. One person has been discharged from the hospital and three others are in critical, but stable, condition, the report said.
Police did not say whether the victims were physicians, nurses, other employees or patients inside the facility.
The alleged shooter, Gregory Paul Ulrich, 67, of Buffalo, was taken into custody.
Ulrich is well known to police as having a history of calls for service going back to 2003, according to Buffalo Police Chief Pat Budke. ....

In the latest incidence of workplace violence within the healthcare industry, a 43-year old female doctor was shot and killed by another physician at Children s Medical Group in Austin, Texas on Tuesday afternoon.
Pediatrician Dr. Katherine Lindley Dodson, 43, died from a gunshot wound that Austin police believe was inflicted by Dr. Bharat Narumanchi, 43. Narumanchi died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the police report. No motive was given for the attack. ....
