New Delhi: For the second time in two days, the Supreme Court sought to defend the expert committee it had set up to resolve the stalemate between farmers and the Centre over the new farm laws.
On Tuesday, while hearing a case unrelated to farmers’ protests, Chief Justice of India S.A. Bobde had observed that “just because a person has expressed a view” on a matter does not mean that this disqualifies them from inclusion in a committee. ....

The president of the Supreme Court Bar Association and one of India’s most highly regarded lawyers has said the Supreme Court has “put itself in a corner” by its handling of the farm laws.
Dushyant Dave, who is also one of the three lawyers assisting the farmers groups, said that by seeking to arbitrate between the farmers and the government the Supreme Court has “stepped into the political arena”. He said it’s surprising judges should have made up their mind to do so without hearing anyone. ....

New Delhi: While hearing several pleas seeking the removal of protesting farmers from Delhi borders, a Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India S.A. Bobde suspended the implementation of the three farm laws until further orders on Tuesday. However, at the same time, it put the Centre in an evidently advantageous position against lakhs of protesting farmers by setting up a committee comprising only those experts who have been openly favouring the contentious legislations. ....
