England hits ‘monumental milestone’ as all eligible care homes offered Covid-19 jab

Tributes have been paid to “dedicated” health and care staff for their efforts in rolling out the Covid-19 vaccine to the most vulnerable, as NHS England claims jabs have now been offered to all eligible care homes for older adults.
In what is being described as a “monumental milestone” for the vaccination scheme, NHS England has announced that the first Covid-19 jab has been offered to people living across 10,000 care homes.
“This important milestone in protecting the vulnerable is the result of amazing partnership working between our GPs, community nurses and care homes” ....

'Daffodil Standards' end-of-life care scheme extended to care homes

In a new development, the college and the charity have now created standalone guidance tailored to the care of patients living in care homes who are coming to the end of their lives.
It has been designed to help general practice care for people in care homes and also support homes to provide the best possible care for their residents.
Nurse leaders welcoming the standards said they hoped it will allow nursing staff to “see ways to innovate the care they give to benefit all service users”.
The guidance, which has been co-developed with frontline GPs, members of the multi-disciplinary practice team and other relevant care providers, was already in development before the pandemic and their use is not limited to the care of patients during Covid-19. ....

LONDON: The UK government on Monday said it has hit a crucial milestone in its COVID-19 vaccination programme, with figures indicating that residents at every eligible care home with older residents across England now administered a life-saving jab.
The National Health Service (NHS) said nurses, general practitioners (GPs) and other NHS staff have offered the life-saving jab to people living at more than 10,000 care homes with older residents, with only a small remainder have had their visits deferred by local directors of public health for safety reasons during a local outbreak. ....
