The initiative aims to produce 3,800 healthcare workers, 1,400 green economy workers, 500 early childhood teachers, and 500 hospitality workers. According to a Portland Press Heraldreport, the budget will be used to cover tuition and fees for around 8,500 students. “This is all about workforce needs in Maine and preventing the brain drain we always complain about. Governor Mills has proposed investing $35 million in MCCS as part of the Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan, her plan to dedicate more than $1 billion in discretionary Federal relief funds allocated to Maine under the American Rescue Plan Act.
