In a big boost to the Indo-EU ties, the two nations are set to begin parallel negotiations for separate trade and investment agreements which would make up a comprehensive Free Trade agreement (FTA),
Economic Times.
Announcing the development, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal emphasised that trade and investments go hand in hand and that the two sides are committed to concluding the two pacts together at an early date.
Goyal also said that countries are looking for trusted trading partners amid the pandemic and given Indiaâs track record, it will be the EUâs âmost natural and reliable ally, partner and friendâ. ....

Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said India and the European Union (EU) will begin negotiations for separate bilateral trade and investment agreements simultaneously under a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement as investments are an area of the EU’s interest while India is keen to get more market access for its goods and services there. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders from the EU and the European Commission are expected to make important announcements such as reviving the stalled free trade agreement negotiations and investment protection pact, launching a `connectivity partnership’ and strengthening digital cooperation in areas such as Aritificial Intelligence when they meet for a virtual Leaders’ Meet later today.
To meet the Covid-19 challenge and put a check on rising infections and deaths, the two sides will also discuss global cooperation and solidarity to build a more resilient global health system, universal and equitable access to vaccines, resilience of pharmaceuticals supply chains and common objectives for WHO reform, according to EU officials. ....

New Delhi: After a gap of seven years, India and the 27-nation bloc European Union (EU) have agreed to resume the pending bilateral trade talks during the annual summit held virtually. They also vowed to have “closer” security cooperation under the Indo-Pacific strategic initiative.
The summit was held Saturday between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Charles Michel, President, European Council (which defines the EU’s overall political direction and priorities) and Ursula Von der Leyen, President, European Commission (EU’s executive branch).
However, for the first time, leaders of all 27 member states also attended the summit this year. ....
