Essential caregivers
Over the last year of COVID lockdown, Richard Craver has done an outstanding job reporting the numbers of cases for the Journal. What has not been seen are the faces of the long-term care residents who have now been unable to touch or be touched by loved ones for one year. North Carolinaâs Department of Health and Human Services announced that indoor visitation was now available in most facilities, but that does not include touch.
For eight months, N.C Caregivers for Compromise have been asking for a designation for essential caregivers: One person who is tested and screened just like staff to be able to touch and provide care for their loved one. Seventeen other states have now made this designation. There have been no reports of transmission from essential caregivers. A recent article from John Locke Foundation reports more excess deaths in N.C. (deaths above yearly averages) than from COVID. This is especially true in long-term care. ....

Bipartisan bill introduced in effort to expand vaccine access for vets & families

U.S. SENATE - Senate Veteransâ Affairs Committee Chairman Jon Tester (D-Mont.), U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-Ark.), Senate Veteransâ Affairs Committee Ranking Member Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) announced Monday via press release that they will introduce bipartisan legislation to expand COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to veterans and their families under the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
The Senatorsâ Strengthening and Amplifying Vaccination Efforts to Locally Immunize all Veterans and Every Spouse (SAVE LIVES) Act would allow VA to provide no-cost COVID vaccination services to all veterans, veteran spouses, caregivers and Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA) recipients to the extent that such vaccines are available. HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - The Huntsville Hospital Health System just announced new visitation guidelines for its Huntsville and Madison locations as well as Huntsville Womenâs and Children.
Beginning March 6, non COVID-19 patients are allowed to have two visitors instead of one.
