Planners give church extension on Evans Road church project
The Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East wants to build a new 7,922 square foot church building at 1743 Evans Road.
The city of Ceres is giving a two-year extension so that Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East may build a new 7,922 square foot church building and maintaining an existing wedding event venue at 1743 Evans Road.
The church was granted a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) in the summer of 2019 but no construction has taken place. The applicant told city staff they need more time to prepare the construction drawings for the church building before they are submitted to the Building Division. ....

The Whitmore Towers project has been temporarily stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For some time it has seemed like once a project is approved in Ceres it gets sucked into a black hole and never sees the light of day. But some of the more recent projects could be stymied because of uncertainties associated with COVID-19 pandemic.
The periodic government shutdowns of sections of the economy particularly have a chilling effect on plans for new eateries. Excitement spread in the community last year when the Ceres Planning Commission and City Council approved plans to build Whitmore Towers, a 7,280-square-foot retail building focused on eating establishments on the triangle-shaped lot across the street from Ceres High School. ....
