Cotton prices are seeing some bullish factors come into play. USDA s latest WASDE report revealed higher exports, along with a smaller crop last year, continue to eat into overall supplies.
USDA showed ending stocks now sit at 3.9 million bales, equivalent to 22% total disappearance.
National Cotton Council CEO Gary Adams tells www.agweb.com it s not just smaller supplies, but a revival of cotton demand is also helping cotton prices.

Covid-19 claims life of cotton researcher

MULTAN: Noted agricultural scientist and cotton researcher Dr Zahoor Ahmed, 78, Wednesday died from coronavirus at a hospital.
According to his family sources, he was tested positive for the virus and was admitted to hospital where he died. He was a long time Director of Central Cotton Research Institute Multan and devoted his entire life to discovering new cotton seed varieties for the development of cotton.
Dr Zahoor joined CCRI Multan in 1972-79 as Head Entomology and later served as Director of the Institute for a long time from 1979-2002. He retired from service as Director Research in 2004.
He graduated from the then West Pakistan Agriculture University, Faisalabad, and achieved PhD degree from Washington State University, USA. The management of cotton leaf curl virus programme was effectively supervised under his leadership and led to the development of resistant varieties. Agriculture experts had advised growers to prefer cultivation of BT cotton varieties along with 10 per cent area of non-BT cotton crops to save it from pest attacks.
A spokesperson for the Agriculture Extension Department said on Tuesday that the government had set a target of 200,000 acres for bringing it under cotton cultivation this year.
For the purpose, the department was also providing subsidy of Rs1,000 per bag of approved and certified cotton seed. The farmers could purchase cotton seed from Punjab Seed Corporation on subsidised rates. ....

MULTAN: Significant steps are being taken for the supply of quality cotton seeds to growers through public-private partnership that would bring a sizable increase in per acre production.
Talking to The News here on Saturday, Pakistan Central Cotton Committee Vice-President Dr Muhammad Ali Talpur stated that the Ministry of National Food Security was going to take important steps to provide high quality seeds to the cotton growers this year in collaboration with the public and private sectors and basic work had been started in this regard.
Dr Muhammad Ali Talpur said that for the first time in the history of the country, the PCCC was going to carry out large-scale multiplication of high quality cotton seeds produced by the PCCC in its subsidiaries. ....
