The services included a march from the church to Barker Cemetery on state Route 131.

While some Memorial Day observances in and around Highland County will still not be quite what they were before the COVID-19 pandemic, several are returning to a full schedule activities.
Following is list of what several communities reported to The Times-Gazette:
In Hillsboro, VFW Post 9094 Commander Rick Wilkin said this year’s Memorial Day observance will still be modest, but no less important. Thirty-nine new bricks containing the names of honored veterans were recently installed at the Highland County Veterans Memorial at the courthouse, where the annual observance will be held Monday, May 31.
Fernando M. Ferdy Garcia, Jr Fernando M. “Ferdy” Garcia, Jr., 65, of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, May 7, 2021.
Ferdy was born March 7, 1956 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Fernando M. and Ruby M. (Steed) Garcia, Sr.
Ferdy was a special classmate and friend to all of the 1974 graduates of Hillsboro High School; attended Southern State Community College, where he received his associate degree; and graduated with honors from Ohio University with a bachelor s degree.
While attending college, Ferdy worked at several auto parts stores in Hillsboro and West Union. After receiving his bachelor s degree, Ferdy started substitute teaching at all the schools in Highland County.
