U.S. 50 traffic in Pueblo West to be moved to ramps at Purcell Blvd

Beginning Tuesday evening, motorists traveling east and westbound on U.S. Highway 50 will be directed on to the newly constructed ramps that will be part of the final interchange design at Purcell Boulevard.
The traffic shift will take place from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and as crews install temporary traffic lights, there will be a full closure of Purcell Blvd.
Slight delays can be expected during this phase of work, but the ramps will have dedicated left and right turn lanes and two through lanes that will move motorists back onto U.S. 50 beyond the intersection.
According to a press release from the U.S. 50 public information team, motorists traveling north and southbound on Purcell Blvd. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. will encounter alternating lane closures between Industrial Blvd. and Spaulding Ave. ....

Pueblo voters could decide on new sales tax for road repairs in November

It’s the single issue that consistently ranks last for citizen satisfaction level and first for what they want city government to prioritize: road condition.
But now, Pueblo voters could decide on whether to adopt a new half-cent sales tax in November specifically to fund street repairs to manage the potholes, cracks and uneven patchwork of asphalt that characterize many city streets.
“Voters should decide on the most equitable way to fund street repairs and transportation projects,” Mayor Nick Gradisar said during Monday s Pueblo City Council work session, when he presented the possible ballot measure to city council. “We should leave that choice to them.”  ....

Ray Aguilera remembered by family, friends for dedication to Bessemer

Ray Aguilera was sitting next to an elementary school student from Pueblo s Bessemer neighborhood at a Colorado Rockies baseball game when he gave him a few dollars to grab a hot dog from the concession stand.
It was his annual trip to Denver, when he chartered buses and brought dozens of students to a game as a reward for learning vocabulary, oftentimes exposing them to the delight of Coors Field and the state’s capital city for the first time: the smell of freshly cut grass, the aroma of stadium food and the tradition of the seventh inning stretch.
Friends say he relished the smiles on those children’s faces more than the game itself.   ....

Pueblo man guilty of manslaughter, acquitted of second degree murder

A Pueblo man has been found guilty by a jury of reckless manslaughter, but acquitted of second degree murder in the shooting death of his step-father on June 23, 2020.
Tyler Idell, 25, was found guilty on Monday in the 10th Judicial District Court of Colorado of reckless manslaughter, a class four felony, for shooting and killing Leslie Cole, 52. This charge is punishable by up to six years imprisonment or $500,000 in fines.
During the trial, the defense team requested an acquittal of the now-convicted felon. The request was denied by the presiding judge, Deborah Eyler.
