MP SPEAKS | Yesterday, the country experienced a new high of 13,215 Covid-19 cases detected. While this number would have caused great alarm among most Malaysians, it is important to interpret these numbers in the proper context. More testing will detect more positive cases and with the proper standard operating procedures (SOPs), this will help contain the spread of the virus.
Moving forward, there is an urgent need to shift away from looking at the total number of daily Covid-19 cases to more specific and relevant figures including the percentage of positive cases, number and percentage of serious cases, ICU admissions and capacity and number of deaths. With the focus on the right set of figures, there is hope for a gradual reopening of various economic sectors safely and responsibly even if the number of cases remains high. ....

MP SPEAKS | Yesterday, the number of Covid-19 positive cases in Selangor reached 2,836 cases out of a total of 6,276 cases nationwide, or 45 percent of total cases.
It is likely that the number of cases will remain high in Selangor for another few weeks for a variety of reasons, including the possible spread of the more infectious Delta variant, and the continued infection of workers via their hostel/dormitory accommodations.
There is an urgent need for the Public-Private Partnership Covid-19 Industry Immunisation Programme (Pikas) at the federal level and for the “Vaksin Selangor” or Selvax programme in Selangor to run concurrently so that the vaccination of workers at factories and construction sites can be ramped up to reduce the number and severity of transmissions in the Klang Valley. ....

Covid-19: Employers concerned foreign workers could contract coronavirus after testing negative

KLANG: Employers are concerned that their foreign workers who tested negative during the compulsory Covid-19 screening, could become positive a few days after that.
Given the rapid increase in daily cases in various states, especially the Klang Valley, they hope there is something that can be done to address this concern.
“We are in a Catch 22 where we can get our workers screened today and the results are negative but what can we do if they become Covid-19 positive several days down the road?’’ asked Original Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar managing director Burhan Mohamed.
He said employers of foreign workers were all compelled by the government to compulsorily screen their workers but there were no back-up plans for later developments. ....
