Sah Bharati team stresses on the need for national co-op policy
Five top Sahakar Bharati leaders landed in Delhi on short notice on Thursday to meet the newly appointed Union Cooperative Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence. Among other things, Sah Bharati leaders stressed on the need to have a National Co-operative Development Policy for the country and the need to develop the NCCT as a Centre of Excellence, free from NCUI.
The longish meeting which lasted one and a half hours and took up fourteen key points related to co-operatives, was led by Sahakar Bharti President Ramesh Vaidya. Others in the team included Uday Joshi, Sanjay Pachpor, Jyotindra Mehta and Satish Marathe. Mehta is said to be close to Shah having worked together for the betterment of co-ops in Gujarat in the past. ....

A MEASURE undertaken by the government of India illustrates how unimaginative governments can be; especially in not reckoning with public reaction. On July 8, the government of India formed the ministry of cooperation. It was announced that the new ministry would be headed by Home Minister Amit Shah. Evidently, it was thought that he had lots of time to spare.
According to the Indian government, the ministry of cooperation “will provide a separate administrative, legal and policy framework for strengthening the cooperative movement in the country”. It is also meant to boost the “ease of doing business” by improving processes, and to enable the development of multi-state cooperative banks. As reported, “the MSCBs have now been solely taken under the Reserve Bank of India for regulatory purposes”. ....
