Canucks rookie defenceman Jack Rathbone to make NHL debut tonight

Tonight’s game just got a whole lot more interesting.
One of the Vancouver Canucks’ most promising young prospects will make his NHL debut against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Arena. Jack Rathbone, an offensive-minded 21-year-old defenceman, will be in the lineup according to Travis Green.
“It’s an exciting night for Jack and I’m excited for him,” Green told reporters this afternoon. “He’s an offensive defenceman, he’s a strong skater, he’s got good puck skills, he’s got a good release on his shot. He’s got the look of a young offensive d-man.”
“The kid’s a gamer. You can just tell that he loves coming to the rink, he loves being around the team. He wants to learn fast. This is one of those times where you get excited for a kid because he’s getting to realize his dream.”

VANCOUVER - Leon Draisaitl knows there's a spotlight fixed firmly on his teammate Connor McDavid as the Edmonton Oilers captain approaches yet another milestone.
And the German sniper believes that's exactly the way it should be.
The entire Oilers locker room is pushing to get McDavid to the 100-point mark in the pandemic-condensed NHL season, Draisaitl said.
"He does so much for our team. He does so much for us on a nightly basis that the least we can do is help him out as much as we can." he said. "It might not be that important to him, but it sure is important to us for him to get to that point."

VANCOUVER – When J.T. Miller had his finest moment of this tumultuous season, speaking truth to power during the Vancouver Canucks’ COVID crisis to tell the National Hockey League it wasn’t yet safe to play, some fans were so moved by his bravery they declared he could be captain.
Tuesday, he demonstrated why he can’t be.
For all his emotion and directness and evolution as a player, his ability to exert his will on games when these traits are properly channelled, the 28-year-old is not the player whose example you want others to follow.

Edmonton Oilers clinch playoff spot with 5-3 win over Vancouver Canucks

"Your first goal every season is to play in the playoffs. That’s step one and we’ve been able to do that," McDavid said. "Now we just need to continue working on our game and pay attention to details and get ready for the playoffs."
Edmonton sits second in the North Division, eight points back of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Vancouver remains at the bottom of the all-Canadian group's standings with nine games to go.
Last year, the Chicago Blackhawks bounced the Oilers from the playoffs in a five-game play-in round series.
It's an experience that's motivated the squad this year, McDavid said.

VANCOUVER - Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers have accomplished their first goal of the season — making the playoffs.
A 5-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday cemented Edmonton's spot in the post-season but the Oilers captain said the hard work is far from over.
“Your first goal every season is to play in the playoffs. That’s step one and we’ve been able to do that," McDavid said. "Now we just need to continue working on our game and pay attention to details and get ready for the playoffs.”
