KU’s institute approves early retirement of employee over misbehaviour

The administration of the HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, which is part of the University of Karachi’s International Centre for Chemical and Biological Science (ICCBS), has approved early retirement of one of its employees during a disciplinary action over charges of misbehaving with a female scholar.
The decision was taken on recommendations of a four-member inquiry committee authorised to investigate the complaint filed by a faculty member. According to a letter issued by the ICCBS on January 15, the committee extensively investigated the case and concluded that the employee’s behaviour with his colleagues and seniors was not appropriate. ....

Sindh govt seeks Centre's permission to directly procure Covid vaccine from foreign govts, firms

Mentioning that it appeared Pakistan would be the last country to vaccinate its people in the world, Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho on Saturday sought the federal government’s permission to directly negotiate with foreign governments and private companies for the procurement of the Covid-19 vaccine.
“Not only the United States, United Kingdom and Turkey but even India and Sub-Saharan African countries have started vaccinating their people against Covid-19 but the response of the federal government regarding acquiring vaccines for the people is very slow and disappointing. We want the federal government to allow us to negotiate with foreign countries and the private companies to purchase vaccine directly for the people of Sindh,” Dr Azra Pechuho told a news conference in Karachi. ....

Four people have died while 18 were hospitalised in Keamari with breathing difficulties due to a ‘toxic gas’.
On Tuesday, two Keamari residents were brought to Ziauddin Hospital Kaemari “in critical condition with severe difficulty in breathing,” said the hospital in a statement.  ....
