Massillon Museum to host portrait workshop

The Massillon Museum will host it’s next Do the Mu! event, a workshop on portraits with instructor Diane Boslett, at noon June 5 via the museum’s website and its Facebook and YouTube pages.
The workshop will complement the exhibit “A Thrilling Act: The Art of Anthony Eterovich (1916–2011),” which will open June 12 in MassMu’s Aultman Health Foundation Gallery.
Boslett is a licensed visual arts teacher with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ashland College and a master’s degree in education in integrated arts from the University of Rio Grande, and she is a member of the Ohio Art Education Association. She teaches private lessons and workshops at the Massillon Museum and the Massillon Public Library, and she works as an activities assistant at the Canton Christian Home.

SCIOTO— This year the Ohio Academy of Science determined that Science Days would be held virtually due to restrictions related to the pandemic. It was determined that students could register to go directly to District Science Day (without needing to participate in their own school’s Science Day or in County Science Day).
The South Central Ohio Service Center’s Gifted Services Department offered to pay all registration fees for students to participate in District Science Day as a way of encouraging students to take part in this event. Students were required to create video presentations of their projects, submit research papers, and register with the Ohio Academy of Science in order to participate. Videos were 15 to 20 minutes in length and students were given prompts to help them with talking points. Volunteer judges from around the state were recruited to watch the videos and score students’ projects based on the following criteria: oral, written and visual communication, originality of project concept, experimental design, and depth of understanding. From this round of judging, students received ratings of Superior, Excellent, Good, or Satisfactory.

‘Farm Fest’ to return… Schedule for 50th anniversary released

RIO GRANDE, Ohio — As promised, after last year’s festival was canceled due to the pandemic, the Bob Evans Farm Fest will be returning this fall, Oct. 8-10.
Celebrating 50 years of Farm Fest in 2021, this event attracts thousands with its entertainment, traditional arts & crafts, farm contests, food, children’s activities and demonstrations.
Planned for this year’s festival are: Live Country & Bluegrass Bands; Hogway Speedway Pig Racing; Taps in Motion Cloggers; Animals from the Columbus Zoo; Great Lakes Timber Show; Lily Pearl’s Tractor Square Dancing; Reno Family Horseshoe Pitching; Ready GO Dog Show; Voices of Ohio Homemade Arts & Crafts; Rides; Fireworks via Rockets Over Rio (hosted by the village of Rio Grande via donations) and much more.
