An experienced educator and administrator who has held multiple academic dean positions at other institutions has been selected to lead the University of Wyoming’s College of Education.
Scott Thomas, most recently the dean of the University of Vermont’s College of Education and Social Services, will be UW’s first John P. “Jack” Ellbogen Dean of the College of Education. The appointment, effective July 1, was approved today (Wednesday) by the UW Board of Trustees.
“We’re excited that an administrator and scholar of Dr. Thomas’ stature and experience has agreed to lead a very important academic college at UW,” says UW Interim Provost Anne Alexander. “We had a strong group of candidates for this position, and it’s great to see that the university’s first-ever endowed deanship will be filled by such an outstanding individual.” ....

Finalists for the position of dean of the University of Wyoming’s College of Education have been identified, and they are scheduled to participate in virtual public forums at UW starting Monday.
The candidates are Fenice Boyd, professor and chair of the Department of Instruction and Teacher Education at the University of South Carolina; Michael de Miranda, endowed chair and head of the Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture at Texas A&M University; Joe Ryan, distinguished professor and executive director of Clemson LIFE at Clemson University; and Scott Thomas, professor and dean of the College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont. ....

UW College of Education launches Virtual WYTeach Competition for high school students – Sheridan Media

The University of Wyoming College of Education and UW Trustees Education Initiative are collaborating with Mursion, a company that develops virtual reality training simulations, to present the inaugural WYTeach competition for high school students interested in becoming teachers.
The top three participants will be awarded scholarships to UW or Wyoming community colleges. Students interested in participating should register and submit a lesson plan by Friday, March 12. To register and for more information, go to www.uwyo.edu/wyteach. ....

UW Professor Named ASTE Outstanding Science Teacher Educator of the Year | News

The associate dean of undergraduate programs in the University of Wyoming College of Education is the recipient of the Outstanding Science Teacher Educator of the Year Level One Award.
Andrea Burrows, a professor in the UW School of Teacher Education, received the award during the Association for Science Teacher Education (ASTE) 2021 International Conference, which took place virtually Jan. 14-15. As part of the award, she received a plaque and a cash award from Carolina Biological Supply Co., and she will be recognized in the awards issue of the ASTE newsletter.
The award recognizes the individual achievements and contributions of ASTE members in the first 10 years of their careers. Burrows has inspired pre-service science educators at UW for over nine years. She has won past awards from ASTE, including the 2019 John C. Park National Technology Leadership Initiative Fellowship and the Innovation in Teaching Science Teachers Award in ....
