The East Valley Jewish Community Center launched its âConversations with the Rabbiâ podcast March 30. Rabbi Michael Beyo, CEO of the EVJCC, said the podcast stemmed from a series of in-person conversations that began in September 2019 between local faith leaders and him. The last in-person conversation was on March 1, 2020 and featured Gary Smith, mission president at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The stated goal of the series, and of the podcast, is to expose listeners to different points of view in a nuanced, respectful and educated way. âThe only way that I can continue to be a good rabbi and a teacher and a leader for my community is if I constantly check myself and try to improve how I do things, why I do things, and try to learn new things and new perspectives,â Beyo said. ....

Elias-Axel Pettersson, founder of Southwest Piano Festival, will perform works by Jewish composers and other monumental figures, taking a cultural tour through time. âI try to organize events that are bringing the Jewish community together â and one such event is this,â Pettersson said. Pettersson grew up in a Jewish home and community in Albuquerque, New Mexico. âI have a connection to the faith and also just to the history and the culture and the traditions surrounding it,â he said. âThere is some spirituality in music, and I feel like bringing that to more people is important.â ....
