ASU is among the leaders in patents granted, startups launched

April 6, 2021
Arizona State University, through Skysong Innovations, continues to achieve high rankings in technology transfer metrics. The latest read on this comes from the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM). According to AUTM’s most recent survey (fiscal year 2019), ASU was fourth in patents granted, fourth in startup companies launched and third in inventions disclosed when compared with other universities without a medical school.
The AUTM report is an annual survey of the performance of technology transfer offices around the country. Skysong Innovations is the intellectual property management and technology transfer organization for ASU.
With 129 patents awarded in FY19, ASU is No. 4 (out of 58 universities and colleges in this peer group) behind MIT, North Carolina State University and California Institute of Technology and ahead of Purdue University, Carnegie Mellon University, the Rochester Institute of Technology ....

Mothers of children with autism have 'significantly different' metabolite levels, scientists say

TROY, N.Y.  The findings of a new study may revolutionize how infant autism-risk is assessed in pregnant mothers. Researchers from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Arizona State University, and the Mayo Clinic report that mothers of children born with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) show significantly different metabolite levels as long as two to five years after giving birth in comparison to women who gave birth to normally developing children.
Study authors analyzed blood samples from 30 mothers who had given birth to a child with autism. They also took samples from 29 mothers with children experiencing typical development. All of the samples came from moms whose children were between two and five years-old already. ....

Mothers of Children With Autism Found to Have Significantly Different Metabolite Levels

Blood sample analysis showed key differences in several groups of metabolites
Blood sample analysis showed that, two to five years after they gave birth, mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) had several significantly different metabolite levels compared to mothers of typically developing children. That’s according to new research recently published in BMC Pediatrics by a multidisciplinary team from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Arizona State University, and the Mayo Clinic.
Researchers analyzed blood samples from 30 mothers whose young children had been diagnosed with ASD and 29 mothers of typically developing children. At the time that the samples were taken, the women’s children were between 2 and 5 years old. The team found differences in several metabolite levels between the two groups of mothers. When examined further, researchers were able to group those differences into five subgroups of correlated metabolites. While the samples analyzed w ....
