On March 2, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) had announced the opening of registration in private schools and preschools in the State of Qatar. Director of Private Schools Licensing Department (PSLD), Hamad Al Ghali, had pointed out that circulars were sent to private schools and preschools indicating that early registration initiated on March 1 and will continue until October 12, 2021. “Registration of overseas students, however, will remain open until the end of January 2022. Each school shall determine and announce its mechanism for registration following the Ministry’s laws and regulations in this regard,” he added. He also noted that the circular provided information in the form of tables that determines the maximum and minimum age for admission in all academic stages. ....

Many are facing difficult financial times due to the pandemic. Parents are reacting to the Ministry’s announcement last month to open applications from private schools to increase fees. A private school has said that it applied for a fee hike last month through the Ministry’s online system. Parents stress it would be difficult for many of them to afford a new increase in fees because of the financial constraints resulting from the pandemic. ....
