Work From Ohm: BC government investing in EV mechanic training


Called the EV Maintenance Training Program, it will be offered at three additional colleges, allowing automotive technicians to upgrade their qualifications. This type of training is already underway in other parts of the province; the program was first offered in 2019 at the B.C. Institute of Technology in the Vancouver suburb of Burnaby. With this new infusion of cash – to the tune of $440,000 –  the EV tech-training program will be extended to Okanagan College’s Kelowna campus, College of New Caledonia in Prince George, and Camosun College in suburban Victoria.
“We’re supporting the growing popularity of EVs by helping auto technicians develop the skills they need to work on EVs in service centres across B.C.,” said Bruce Ralston, minister of energy, mines and low carbon innovation. Eligible technicians interested in the program should check each college’s web site for course details. Training is scheduled to begin this fall. ....

On directives of Administrator Karachi Laeeq Ahmed, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation s (KMC) works department has reconstructed the roads of Majeed Colony and Muzaffarabad in Malir District.
According to a statement issued by the KMC on Saturday, a total of 185,000 square feet of carpeting had been done on both the roads. During his visit to Malir, the administrator took notice of the dilapidated condition of Majeed Colony and Muzaffarabad roads and directed to pave the roads. The repair work has been completed expeditiously. The administrator issued special directives to Works and Services Director General Shabeeh ul Hassan Zaidi to facilitate citizens. ....

It was interesting to read in the Chronicle that most of the repairs to SH4 were completed.
[What about the] recently relabelled Auraki Stream Rd Retreat?
It had another name for the last six years, but
I suppose a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
It s an example of the Whanganui region losing, in my view, a lot of roading attention when the NZTA office disappeared.
This is a road of national importance as far as we are concerned, it would be interesting to know the details of future upgrades. ....

Repair work underneath U.S. 20/26 Snake River Bridge starts this week


NYSSA
The Oregon Department of Transportation will be repairing the U.S. 20/26 Snake River Bridge in Nyssa this month. 
Maintenance crews will be working below the bridge from an 18 by 60 foot barge. The barge is currently staged near the work site and will be moved into position early next week. 
Bridge work is slated to begin on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Boaters and others using the waterway will be able to maneuver around the barge, but you will need to use extra caution. U.S. 20/26 traffic impacts on the bridge will be minimal.
Work consists of removing built up rust from bridge supports and other maintenance. The repairs will be completed and the barge moved by the end of April. ....

MARLIN, TX — The City of Marlin isn t very big but it s dealing with a massive problem worth millions of dollars — damaged roads.
Every corner of Marlin has several abandoned businesses and run-down homes.
The streets are crumbling apart.
Marlin s city roads need a whole lot of help. You know, everywhere you go, you got potholes, Marlin resident Joe Judie said.
No matter where you turn, the pavement is essentially broken up rock and dirt.
Judie said the roads are so bad that it s dangerous. ....
