President Jenifer K. Ward has announced the appointment of Lynda A. Szymanski to the newly created provost position at Luther College.
“From the opening words of her application letter to the last conversation in her finalist interview, Dr. Szymanski demonstrated that she knew Luther College both its gifts and its challenges and that she believed in the intersection between her decade of academic leadership experience and Luther s desire for a mission-conscious, inclusive, and integrative thinker as its new provost,” said Ward. “There was striking consistency in the written feedback about her visit from the community. Students, faculty, and staff alike noted her ability to listen well, to challenge, and to inspire in her conversations with them. I am excited to partner with Dr. Szymanski and welcome her to the Cabinet as we work togeth ....

Doc's License Suspended for Exposing Patients to COVID

Anthony Farina Jr., MD, allegedly continued to work after he tested positive for the disease, and wore a mask that exposed his nose, according to witness testimony to the state medical board.
Farina continued to see patients while knowingly sick. He passed the virus to employees. I think this was the wrong thing to do, one unidentified staff member had complained.
According to the board s order, Farina told the committee that he only had a sinus infection, and no symptoms other than nasal discharge that went away after he took antibiotics. He said he didn t contract COVID-19 until weeks later, and appropriately isolated and wore an N95 mask at that time. ....

RI doctor loses license for 'deliberately' exposing patients to COVID

PROVIDENCE  State Department of Health Director Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott ordered the emergency suspension of a North Providence doctor’s license after investigators determined that he deliberately exposed patients and staff to COVID-19 and presented a danger to the community.
Dr. Anthony Farina, a 1991 Brown University School of Medicine graduate who runs at least six medical practices in Rhode Island, on Thursday was suspended from practicing medicine until further order of the Department of Health or the Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline for an overall pattern of “unprecedented” willful misconduct.
The board’s investigative committee moved to have Farina’s license summarily suspended by Alexander-Scott after hearing witness testimony that he exposed staff and patients to COVID after becoming symptomatic in late November. They reported that Farina continued to work even after testing positive days later, continuing to see patients while wearing an ....
