Suspect sought in Love Lady Thrift Store burglary

JEFFERSON COUNTY Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a burglary suspect in Jefferson County.
According to a post from Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama, Jefferson County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a burglary at the Love Lady Thrift Store on Old Springville Rd. in the early morning hours of June 25, 2021.
Detectives have obtained a photo from the store’s video surveillance system and are asking for help in identifying the person pictured. Anyone who has knowledge of the pictured suspect is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama.
Cash rewards could be available to tips leading to an arrest. ....

Old Springville Rd. closed in Pinson following single-vehicle accident


PINSON A section of Old Springville Rd. has been closed in Pinson following a single-car accident.

The wreck occurred on Thursday afternoon near Clearview Baptist Church, which is located at 5271 Old Springville Rd. It appears that a sedan struck a utility pole in the area, snapping the top-portion of the structure.
Center Point Fire is on the scene. No injuries have been reported. ....

Clay Council continues teacher grants, gets update on Cosby Lake dredging project

CLAY Despite all of the unknowns with the Covid-19 pandemic and public school systems, the Clay City Council has continued with its long-standing tradition of awarding $500 grants to one teacher at each of the schools in the Clay community throughout this school year.
Clay City Councilor Dennis Locke announced this month’s school grant winners at the virtual city council meeting on Zoom, Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021.
Clay Elementary School’s grant was awarded to Principal Jacqnaii Finkley to allocate the funds as needed.
The Bryant Elementary School grant was awarded to math teacher Natalie Davis, who will use the funds to purchase a printer, and additional ink and toner; Davis also plans to purchase hands-on learning tools for her classroom to help students visualize math problems and explore new strategies. ....

City of Clay to host annual Alabama pickleball tournament

CLAY Big news for the city of Clay was announced at the city council meeting held on Dec. 22, 2020. City Manager Ronnie Dixon informed the council that the city of Clay was chosen to host Alabama’s first pickleball tournament, which will be held the week of Spring Break, March 25-28, 2021. The city opened its four pickleball courts, as well as four new tennis courts, in August 2019.

“I have an exciting announcement,” Dixon said. “The city of Clay has been chosen to host the first annual Alabama open in pickleball. I think it’s our first real opportunity to have something that we can create that will be on par with the Butterbean Festival as we grow into it. I don’t know yet how many participants there will be. Of course, with it being an open tournament, anyone can sign up for the age groups.” ....
