The Common Air-rea - Re-envisioning Public Space in the Age of Air Pollution - At the present, Bangkok, and other big cities around the world, are suffering from poor air quality which has affected the livelihood of their inhabitants. Such low quality of air is caused by invisible pollutants, including Particulate Matter (PM) smaller than 2.5 microns. A major contributor to air pollution is the emission from vehicles. Additionally, agricultural burning, forest fires, and industrial processes are also important emitters of airborne particulate matters. Air pollution is the cause of many illnesses such as respiratory and heart diseases, as well as lung cancer, leading to as many as 7 million deaths per year around the world. The air quality problem is an important challenge that must be addressed in order to improve the quality of life of city dwellers. ....

As people become more aware of the waste crisis and search for smart solutions to survive a pandemic, the Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI) has joined hands with Bangkok Design Week 2021 with the exhibition Taiwan Design Power – The Future Of Sustainability .

Baan Klong Jan Organic Garden in Sa Kaeo province used to be an empty space owned by the municipality. However, the local community decided to divide it among 50 people from impoverished neighbourhoods. They were allowed to use 200m² each to grow plants and each person grew flowers or trees and by doing so, they converted the empty space into a public space which has brought local people income from visitors and tourists. ....

After the coronavirus spread around the world in 2019, face masks became an essential item in people s lives. While a face mask symbolises safety and protection, it can reflect inequality in society and an ineffective government.
Organised by Issaraphap Design as a part of Bangkok Design Week 2021, A New Interpretation Of Face Wear Design Exhibition features 26 mask design finalists selected from 436 designs by students from 21 universities. The highlights of the exhibition are three winners in three different categories Wrap Mass (Functional), Fresh Shield (Innovation or New Possibility) and Greedy (Conceptual).
A face mask is like an extra organ of our body. I feel uncomfortable wearing it, but I hesitate to take it off when I am outside my dormitory. I prefer to feel uncomfortable rather than be infected, said winner Laksikaporn Surod. ....
