I am Anchorage born and raised and I am concerned for the students of Anchorage and the future of Alaska. Forty percent proficiency is alarming! We can do better. The students and parents deserve better.

I have a heart for kids, a heart for Anchorage, the education and years of experience as a teacher, counselor, assistant principal and principal in the ASD, as well as the private setting. Education is my wheelhouse. I can help raise student achievement. It’s imperative.

Oklahoma bill would offer students class in functioning in society

OKLAHOMA CITY — House lawmakers have advanced a measure that would allow schools to teach students skills needed to survive and thrive as adults in society.
The measure, which advances to the state Senate, proposes creating an “Adulting 101” elective that would be available in every district statewide as early as the 2022-23 school year, said state Rep. Ajay Pittman, D-Oklahoma City.
“This is not necessarily a version of home ec,” she said. “Yeah, we may want them to sew a button. Yeah, we want them to know how to prepare a basic meal, or understand nutrition. But we also want them to have some skills that prepare them for life.” ....

A greater presence of women in directive boards in companies is related to a lower participation in cartels, agreements between companies to reduce competition and harm consumers. This is the main conclusion of an interuniversity research study funded by OCDE, which counts on the participation of Joan-Ramon Borrell, lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the UB. Researchers have analyzed more than a hundred companies. They have estimated that when a company ends up in a cartel situation, there is also an increase in the presence of women on the board of directors.
