LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - One person has died after being struck by a vehicle early Tuesday morning on U.S. 84, between Lubbock and Shallowater.
DPS responded to the crash just before 5:30 a.m., northwest of FM 2641. The driver of a SUV was traveling eastbound when they spotted a person in the roadway. The driver swerved to try and avoid striking the person, according to DPS. The driver ended up rolling and striking the person as a result. ....

County Seeking Public Input for Improvements to Portion of S. Eads Street

The public survey focuses on the east (northbound) side of the relatively small section of S. Eads Street running near Amazon’s future HQ2. It asks questions about living and working in Arlington, how individuals travel around the county, and how safe does one feel traveling along this particular segment of S. Eads Street.
The last page of the survey provides an interactive map, asking individuals to leave comments about their difficulty crossing the street, sightlines, and if pavement or sidewalks are in need of repair.
“We’re hoping to gather observations and experiences on how people use the street now across all modes, from biking and walking to taking transit and driving,” writes Eric Balliet, spokesperson for Arlington’s Dept. of Environmental Services, in an email to ARLnow. “We’d like to know what issues they experience, any safety or access concerns they have, and how they might want to see the street improved. A 12-year-old boy has been injured in a crash between a car and a pedestrian outside Tauranga Intermediate School this afternoon.
Emergency services were alerted to a serious crash involving a car and a pedestrian in Tauranga on Fraser St about 3.10pm, police said in a statement.
Fraser St between 18th Ave and Brook St was closed for several hours following the incident but the road has since reopened. ....

Galleries, museums stand to lose millions
The Art Gallery budget could be cut by $9 million according to budget estimates.
Multi-million-dollar funding cuts for some of the state s cultural institutions, including the Art Gallery of NSW, the Australian Museum and the Opera House, have been flagged by the NSW Treasury.
The proposed budget cuts were contained in documents tabled in Parliament.
The Australian Museum is facing a loss of $13 million annually, the Art Gallery s budget would be reduced by $9 million, and the State Library, Historical Houses Trust and State Archives are also in the firing line. ....

Pedestrian Struck Dead by Vehicle on Highway 101 in Healdsburg

A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Healdsburg. The CHP reports that the collision happened early Saturday morning on southbound 101, south of Central Healdsburg. A Jeep Cherokee was reportedly driving at the speed limit in the left lane when they saw a pedestrian standing in their lane. The 16-year-old driver tried to avoid hitting the person but failed. The driver immediately pulled over and called 911 after the crash. The pedestrian’s identity is being withheld pending family notification. The driver and the other two occupants in the vehicle were uninjured. ....
