Yamaha stunt rider and Isle of Man TT pro back road safety campaign


YAMAHA stunt rider Dave Coats and Isle of Man TT professional John McGuinness are helping Northumbria Police and Road Respect to help keep riders safe on the region s roads this biking season.
Shocking figures reveal 17 per cent of motorcyclists are killed or seriously injured on our roads and the two motorcycling pros together with police are helping educate riders on how to enjoy riding safely.
They provided videos to promote a regional road safety campaign, as part of Global Road Safety Week, and motorbike garages, Ian Bell Yamaha Bedlington and Vertu BMW Boldon, loaned bikes for the filming.

Delivery drivers could face £300 fine and six points on licence without right insurance


Road Safety Sergeant Jane Munro, of the Motor Patrols department, said: “With restaurants and shops closed there has been a big boom in the amount of people ordering takeaways and online deliveries, resulting in more people turning to a career as a self-employed delivery driver.
“But in order to use your car for deliveries you require additional insurance cover or risk invalidating your insurance altogether.
“Please don’t get caught out and make sure you understand what your policy does and does not cover.
“If you’re caught driving with invalid insurance you risk a fine, getting your car seized, points or even losing your licence. ....

Northumbria Police arrest 36 drivers in just seven days of drink and drug drive campaign

OFFICERS supporting a national road safety campaign this Christmas have arrested 36 drivers in the first week of action in the Northumbria Police force area – with one driver caught at more than four times the limit.
The activity follows Northumbria Police’s pledge to the National Police Chiefs Council’s (NPCC) road safety campaign which was launched on December 1.
The figures taken from the first nine days of action revealed of the 36 arrests – 18 were for suspected drunk-driving and another 18 for suspected drug-driving – with 10 of those following road traffic collisions.
Officers said one of the most shocking case reported happened the morning the campaign launched, following a two-vehicle collision. ....
