YANGON, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) Myanmar s military reformed the Peace Talks Committee on Monday after the declaration of a one-year state of emergency in the Southeast Asian country, for continuing talks with armed ethnic organizations for achieving a lasting peace in Myanmar.
In the reform, the committee led by Lt-Gen Yar Pyae took in three more Lieutenant Generals while removing one from the previous four Lieutenant Generals, in order to continue the talks with National Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) signatories ethnic armed organizations for further strengthening the peace process, to discuss with non-signatories and to hold necessary talks to accomplish the goal of restoring eternal peace in Myanmar. ....

NAYPYITAW A meeting between representatives of the government and the Myanmar military (or Tatmadaw) held in Naypyitaw on Thursday in an effort to overcome the current political crisis ended without a breakthrough.
Sources with knowledge of the meeting told The Irrawaddy that the Tatamdaw expressed its distrust in Myanmar’s election body, the Union Election Commission, and asked the government to abolish it. It also asked the government to recount all votes in the Nov. 8 general election with the military’s assistance and to postpone the incoming Parliament, which is scheduled to convene on Monday. Yangon This week Myanmar received 1.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses provided by the government of India as the very first vaccines from abroad. The government is planning to vaccinate its healthcare workers on the COVID-19 frontline and government staffs and members of parliaments by next week.
Also this week, Myanmar discussed the expansion of Japanese investments in the country and the promotion of military relations with the Japan-Myanmar Association. Meanwhile Myanmar approved four investments including a new Japanese investment in Yangon.
Myanmar inked a power purchase deal with a Thai company and Myanmar Tourism Bank has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to assist the restaurant and tourism development sectors impacted by COVID-19. ....
