By DANA LARSEN / Pilot-Tribune Editor The White House on Tuesday kicked off the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program for COVID-19 Vaccination, which will supply vaccines directly to pharmacies nationwide. Starting Feb. 11, retail pharmacies participating in the public-private partnership will receive limited vaccine supply to immunize priority populations. Frustration is growing in Buena Vista County, which is struggling to get enough of the Moderna vaccine for providers to vaccinate top-tier priority populations. Public Health Director Pam Bogue said that of the left-over supply from long-term care facility vaccinations, none is apparently coming to the county. Vaccine has trickled into the county since the first delivery shortly before Christmas - sometimes 100 doses per week. One week, none was provided. Last week, multiple shipments came in totaling 500 doses. Bogue admits that health officials have little idea when, and how much, vaccine will be provided. ....
Friday, December 11, 2020 By DANA LARSEN / Pilot-Tribune Editor Public health officials are beginning to get word from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Operation Warp Speed about arrival of long-awaited coronavirus vaccine - which will far fall short of need. Buena Vista County Public Health was told this week that its first allocation after the vaccine is approved will be 500 doses. That isnt even enough to fully serve the first group in line to receive vaccine - front line health care workers. There are about 775 of those people in the county, according to BV Public Health Director Pam Bogue. A whole lot of them are nurses, but this also includes people such as dentists and mental health counselors. ....
