The Arizona Corporation Commission is investigating the forever chemicals found in residents and business owners drinking water near Luke Air Force Base.
Commissioner Anna Tovar on Monday announced she was opening the investigation one week after the U.S. Air Force announced it found high levels of the chemicals perfluorooctane sulfonate, or PFOS, and perfluorooctanoic acid, or PFOA, in the wells of private utility Valley Utilities Water Company.
The levels exceeded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency s lifetime health advisory, which is not an enforceable regulation. ....

The contaminants are referred to as forever chemicals because they do not naturally break down in the environment. While the EPA does not regulate the chemicals, the Corporation Commission in a statement said they are linked to adverse health effects including cancer and developmental issues in fetuses and infants. ....
