Boris Johnson signs Brexit deal treaty in historic moment as UK takes back control from EU | Politics | News


The Prime Minister signed the international agreements in Downing Street this afternoon.
He said: By signing this deal, we fulfil the sovereign wish of the British people to live under their own laws, made in their own elected Parliament.
Speaking in the House of Commons this morning he described the trade treaty as historic and said it represented a new era for Britain.

He told MPs: We are going to open a new chapter in our national story, striking free trade deals around the world, adding to the agreements with 63 countries we have already achieved, and reasserting Global Britain as a liberal, outward-looking force for good. ....

Brexit deal 'done' - UK Government announce UK EU trade deal

The UK and EU have agreed a trade deal.
The in / out Referendum in 2016 saw 41,544 Wrexham people voting to leave the EU and 28,822 voting to remain part of it – with a whopping 71.6% turnout (you can relive the local count night here).
PM Johnson announced the deal in a live briefing from Downing Street, his full statement is below:

Both Parliament in Westminster and the European Parliament in Brussels must give their consent to a trade deal before it can come into effect.
But yesterday, Jacob Rees-Mogg sent MPs home for the Christmas break, with no current plans for them to sit again until January 4.
He had been expected to announce to the Commons that MPs would be asked to remain in Westminster next week in case a deal was struck, but changed his mind due to the gaps in negotiations.
However, he told the House: Should a deal be secured, it is the Government s intention to request a recall in order that Parliament may pass the necessary legislation. ....
