A preliminary model of an electronic voting machine (EVM) was shown by the government at the Parliament House on Wednesday.
The prototype machine was presented by the Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, Adviser to Prime Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan and Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Information Faisal Javed.
While briefing the media, the information minister said that the new voting machine fulfils the thirty-six conditions of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
He said the EVM will produce quick election results, and the contesting candidates will have no reason to level allegations of rigging. ....

ISLAMABAD: To ensure fairness and transparency in elections, the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) government on Monday unveiled an electoral reforms agenda envisaging a series of amendments to the Constitution and election laws.
The proposed amendments include introduction of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and right to franchise to overseas Pakistanis and also permission to contest elections as well as identifiable ballot for Senate elections.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain and Adviser to Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan shared details of the reforms agenda at a news conference, here on Monday. ....

Advisor to Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan Monday said the incumbent government is committed to bringing electoral reforms in the country to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the future.
Addressing a presser along with Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Hussain Chaudhry, he said Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to bring improvement in the electoral laws in given circumstances and 49 changes are being made in the Election Act, 2017 by introducing or abrogating sections and making amendments in the existing sections. ....

Govt prepares 13-point agenda for electoral, law reforms: Babar Awan


ISLAMABAD: The government has prepared a 13-point agenda for constitutional amendments for electoral and law reforms.
“The government has completed its homework and prepared a 13-point agenda for the proposed electoral reforms for the next general elections,” said Advisor to Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan in an Interview with The News and Jang on Saturday.
He said after the comprehensive and much-needed electoral reforms, no one will be able to cast doubts on the transparency of elections in the country. The Election Commission of Pakistan would be strengthened with giving more financial autonomy so that it could formulate its own budget. ....
