Barclays Bank UK Chairman Ian Cheshire To Step Down
LONDON (dpa-AFX) - Barclays Plc (BARC.L, BCS) said Friday Ian Cheshire will step down as a director and the chair of Barclays Bank UK Plc.
Ian has informed the group that he is unable to accommodate the increased time commitment and duration required to see through program, the company said in a statement.
Therefore, Ian will step down and hand over the chair of Barclays UK to Crawford Gillies, who will join the Barclays UK board with effect from 1 January 2021.
Ian will stay on the board of Barclays until the AGM in May 2021 in order to help ensure a smooth transition. ....

BRUSSELS/FRANKFURT/PARIS (dpa-AFX) - U.K. stocks advanced on Friday and the pound fell as Britain and European Union negotiators played down expectations a deal will be reached.
Speaking in the European Parliament, Michel Barnier, the EU s chief negotiator said it was the moment of truth for the two sides to come to an agreement.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said bridging big differences , particularly on fishing rights, would be very challenging while Prime Minister Boris Johnson said discussions were in a serious situation .

Barclays fined £26m over poor treatment of customers in financial difficulty

Barclays has been fined £26 million after its poor treatment of some consumer credit customers who fell into arrears or experienced financial difficulties risked making their problems worse.
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) imposed the fine on Barclays Bank UK Plc, Barclays Bank Plc and Clydesdale Financial Services Limited (Barclays).
It said Barclays has pro-actively redressed these customers, paying over £273 million to at least 1,530,000 customer accounts since 2017 and the redress programme is close to completion.
Barclays apologised to customers and said it has now put several new measures in place, including changes to staff training. ....

Barclays fined £26m for poor treatment of customers in distress

The City watchdog has fined Barclays £26m for historic poor treatment of customers who suffered financial hardship after being offered credit.
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) pointed to failed customer contact policies between 2014 and 2018 at Barclays Bank UK Plc and its Clydesdale Financial Services arm.
It said Barclays had pro-actively handed redress to more than 1.5 million individual and business customers to date, paying over £273m in total since 2017.
