A court order banning publication of details of the disastrous oil spill off the Israeli coast was issued on Monday, drawing criticism from environmental organizations.
Investigators were said to be working to identify the ship responsible for the damage, tons of tar that washed up on the country’s beaches and will take years to clean up.

You many think of Greece as predominantly a sun, sea and sand destination, even if you like to soak up the culture too. But with its mild climate, history and beautiful landscape, Greece has a lot to offer all year round. It’s also taking great strides in sustainability, and by its very nature, its culture has some features that make it a hit with ecotourists.

“Organic produce markets and island seafood makes it an unintentional leader of the world’s most sustainable food,” explained Lonely Planet. This year, the travel platform has refocused its Best in Travel awards on “destinations that are making incredible contributions in the areas of sustainability, diversity and community,” and it named Greece as the Best Food Destination for 2021. ....

The Messina Strait, a submarine bridge separating the island of Sicily from the Italian Peninsula, is the area with the largest marine litter density worldwide -more than a million objects per square kilometre in some parts-, as reported in a new review paper published in the journal
Environmental Research Letters.
Also, over the next thirty years, the volume of rubbish in the sea could surpass three billion metric tons (Mt), as cited in the study, whose corresponding authors are the experts Miquel Canals, from the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the University of Barcelona, and Georg Hanke from the European Commission s Joint Research Centre (JRC), where scientists carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policies. ....
