I was amused when a UBC PhD student asked for public help. She was studying field mice and when she looked for her traps, they were all empty and in a pile. She was unaware of the coyotes and they had been happily enjoying the fresh mice her traps provided. The old firing range was mostly open ground with grasses and brush … ideal coyote habitat.
In the 35 years I have lived in Pitt Meadows, we have had coyotes in and about the community. One cornered our cat under a vehicle in the driveway in broad daylight. I used to keep an eye on a long-used den but it has been buried by top loading, as both residential and industrial redevelopment of the low-lying agricultural land (formerly dairy and hay) continues. ....

Port Moody approves Woodland Park redevelopment with over 2,000 homes

“We are very happy that the City of Port Moody has demonstrated its support for affordable housing in their community,” said Peter Edgar, president of Edgar Development, in a statement.
“Our partnership with BC Housing can serve as a template for how to bring together different housing options in one location, while rejuvenating a neighbourhood over time. I want to thank Council, staff, BC Housing, and everyone who has supported this project.”

Homes for 8,000 people proposed next to SkyTrain's Coquitlam Central Station

Up to nine towers reaching a height of as much as approximately 60 storeys are proposed for the project, which is currently in its preliminary stage of review with the City of Coquitlam. Perkins & Will is the project’s architectural design firm.
The proponents are looking to build homes for as many as 8,000 residents, including six condominium towers with about 3,000 homes for an estimated 6,000 residents, and two rental housing towers with roughly 1,000 homes for approximately 2,000 residents.
The first phase on the north side of the site comprises of both rental housing towers, including 150 units of below-market rental housing, as well as one condominium tower with about 500 homes. ....

Port Moody traffic: Speed believed to be a factor in crash that sent motorcyclist to hospital

VANCOUVER
Police in Port Moody say speed is believed to be a factor in a crash that closed a section of a local highway for several hours.
Officers were called to Barnet Highway near View Street at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they discovered a motorcycle had crashed into the back of a pickup truck that had stopped.
The 21-year-old motorcyclist, who is from Vancouver, had serious head injuries from the collision and was taken to hospital. Police say he s in serious but stable condition.
While the exact circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation, speed has been determined to be a factor, Port Moody police said in a news release. ....
