Comment: Burden of fixing racism in the media should not sit with victims
In the latest of a series of Press Gazette articles looking at diversity and the media, Barbara Blake Hannah Award winner Kuba Shand-Baptise reflects on the Press Gazette survey which last week identified widespread concerns about racism in the UK media.
As editors are forced to consider the role they are playing in perpetuating racism in the industry, I can’t help but agonise over how much more pressure will be put on the few journalists of colour the industry has in the first place as a result. ....

Grange hails new Rastafari Coral Gardens Elders' home in St James

Olivia Grange, the Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, has expressed pleasure that the Rastafari Coral Gardens Elders’ Home established at Granville in St James with funds provided by the ministry, is now operational.
Grange spoke at the official opening of the home on April 1, 2021.
The facility was established to care for the medical and social needs of the survivors of the 1963 Coral Gardens Massacre. It is managed by the Rastafari Coral Gardens Benevolent Society (RCGBS).
“It is pleasing and quite an accomplishment to have the home now up and running, and I must say job well done to the Rastafari Coral Gardens Benevolent Society which spent the funds prudently to make the home fully functional,” said Grange. ....

Jamaica Shuffles Cannabis Leadership Ahead of Export Regulations Announcement
Jamaica’s industry has drawn significant interest from international investors, due to the island s historical association with cannabis and low-cost production.

Jamaican officials have announced a major leadership realignment at the country’s Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA), pledging that the shake up, along with the forthcoming release of long-promised export regulations, are the final steps ahead of its pivot into global cannabis exports.
On Tuesday, Audley Shaw, the Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, announced that LeVaughn Flynn would be appointed as Chair of the Cannabis Licensing Authority’s Board of Directors. The Board manages the CLA, which oversees all industry regulation, from the establishment of policies and procedures to the issuance of licenses.  ....
