Five of the Iowa nursing homes deemed by the government to be among the worst in the nation have met those criteria for at least two years, and one has qualified for four years, according to federal records.
The list of the nation’s worst-performing nursing homes, compiled by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, is known as the special-focus facilities list, and is updated quarterly. The special-focus facilities are those deemed by CMS to have “a history of serious quality issues” and they are enrolled in a special program that is intended to stimulate improvements in their quality of care through increased oversight. ....

REGIONAL Nobles County recorded nine new, positive cases of COVID-19 during the 24-hour reporting period that culminated at 4 p.m. Sunday, while Rock County added four new cases, Murray County, three, Cottonwood County, two, and Jackson and Pipestone counties each adding one.
The information was released this morning by the Minnesota Department of Health.
Statewide, 980 new cases of the novel coronavirus were reported during the 24-hour period, along with 12 deaths. Among the dead were five individuals who resided in private residences, and seven who were residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities. The death toll from the virus in Minnesota now stands at 5,939, including 3,786 residents of long-term care facilities. ....

REGIONAL Cottonwood County recorded six new cases of COVID-19 during the 24-hour reporting period that culminated at 4 p.m. Friday, while Nobles and Pipestone counties added four new cases apiece. Murray County had one new case of the novel coronavirus; Jackson and Rock counties each had none..
During the one-day period, Minnesota reported 1,529 new cases of the virus. The state’s cumulative total of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases now stands at 445,047 (positive and antigen tests), with 425,253 beyond the 10-day isolation period. Thus far, 34,723 Minnesota health care workers have contracted the virus. ....
