Senate body wants to share details on Kashmir issue July 9, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan on Thursday recommended the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to share details of efforts so far made in an in-camera meeting regarding the Kashmir issue and the global stance thereon. The committee, which met here with its Chairman Senator Prof Sajid Mir in the chair, took a serious notice of the absence of the minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and the members were of the view that the minister’s presence was imperative to discuss policy matters. The meeting was attended by Senator Falak Naz, Senator Palwasha Muhammad Zai Khan, Senator Muhammad Qasim, Senator Shahdat Awan, Senator Kamran Michael, Senator Shaheen Khalid Butt and senior officers from the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). ....
July 5, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The diametrically opposed stands of the government and the opposition parties on at least five amendments to the Elections Act, passed by the National Assembly, are the key sticking points that have the potential to rock their impending dialogue intended to hammer out a consensus on the electoral reforms package. The objections publicly aired by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on 45 out of 72 amendments inserted in the Elections Act, 2017 are distinct from this stumbling block. The government and the opposition have taken rigid stances on the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), voting rights to overseas Pakistanis, the disqualification cut-off date, discounting the relevant constitutional provisions, open ballot in the Senate elections in place of secret vote, transferring the ECP roles in various aspects to the National Database & Registration Authority (Nadra) etc. ....

FDE to change summer vacation schedule By File photo. ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training directed on Wednesday the relevant ministry to start summer vacations in federal educational institutions from July 1, as decided by the Punjab government. During a meeting held at Parliament House under the chairmanship of Senator Irfan Siddiqui, the committee members questioned the commencement of summer vacations in Punjab and the federation on different dates. The committee members directed the ministry officials to inform the concerned minister about their concerns on the issue and directed that summer vacations should be announced in federal educational institutions from July 1 like Punjab. ....
NCSW head election row may land in court June 28, 2021 ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: The nomination by a parliamentary committee of the new chairperson of the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) is likely to end up in a superior court as the election has been marred by a furious row between the ruling coalition and the opposition parties. The 12-member bipartisan Parliamentary Committee on the Appointment of the NCSW Chairperson interviewed two contenders, Fauzia Waqar and Nilofer Bakhtiar, a participant said. During the voting in the parliamentary panel, Fauzia Waqar was elected through a show of hands by six votes against five. As the opposition’s choice won, committee chairperson Falak Naz, belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), voted in favour of Nilofer Bakhtiar. ....
