ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training directed on Wednesday the relevant ministry to start summer vacations in federal educational institutions from July 1, as decided by the Punjab government.
During a meeting held at Parliament House under the chairmanship of Senator Irfan Siddiqui, the committee members questioned the commencement of summer vacations in Punjab and the federation on different dates.
The committee members directed the ministry officials to inform the concerned minister about their concerns on the issue and directed that summer vacations should be announced in federal educational institutions from July 1 like Punjab.

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunications Tuesday expressed concerns over fake social media accounts operating with the names of political and social personalities.
The meeting was chaired by Senator Rubina Khalid. While expressing her grave concerns over the misuse of social media in the country Rehman Malik said that thousands of fake social media accounts are running for different malicious purposes and spreading blasphemous and highly objectionable materials to create uncertainty and chaos among the public.
He said that many are operating social media accounts with different names including the names of politicians are also used. He said that we had arranged hardware for Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) that such objectionable and hatred materials could be removed and the accounts could be blocked immediately however about the fate of hardware PTA can tell either it is operating or still under process.

A Senate panel was told on Monday the committee’s division sought assistance of the World Bank for poverty assessment in unreachable areas where the level of the poorest segments would be determined according to the statistics revealed by the bank’s system.
In a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety held under the chairmanship of Senator Dr Jahanzeb Jamaldini, the chief executive officer of the division said it had access to many areas where the poverty level was high, but certain areas were inaccessible for which the division had sought the World Bank’s help.

The Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology directed creating awareness among parents regarding the social media use, saying that it was not for the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block sites, the Media Directorate of the Senate Secretariat said in a statement on Monday.
The committee, which met with its chairperson Rubina Khalid in the chair, discussed the issues of public importance raised in the house by Senator Atiq Sheikh and by Munir Ahmed Khan. The issue of ban on social media also came under detailed discussion.
