A retired businessman and teacher, Baker served on the Desert Hot Springs City Council from 2007 until 2011
Desert Hot Springs Mayor Scott Matas, who served on City Council with Baker from 2007-11, remembers Baker as eclectic and intelligent, with a strong interest in public service.  
He was a very big supporter of the LGBT community and passionate about city finances, so he was always asking questions about our financial status, Matas said on Thursday.
Matas said Baker was also involved with the development of the Desert Hot Springs Community Health and Wellness Center, and made a couple trips to Sacramento to advocate for state funding for the center.  ....
