Desert Hot Springs OKs 402 condos near Palm Drive and 15th Avenue


The Desert Hot Springs City Council upheld the Planning Commission s approval of 402 condos near 15th Avenue and Palm Drive on Tuesday night, denying an appeal from a nearby homeowners association that opposes the project. 
Marbella Villas is proposed for a vacant 25-acre site north of 15th Avenue and west of Palm Drive. The project would include 402 condominiums in 42 residential buildings, with 25 two-story buildings and 17 three-story buildings.
Residents of Skys Haven, a nearby mobile home community for seniors, have argued that the project is incompatible with surrounding single-story mobile homes, and that it will increase traffic and negatively impact their quality of life.  ....

Bill would require virtual options for post-pandemic City Council meetings


For over a year, members of the public have joined local city council meetings virtually, using phones, Zoom and other teleconference systems to participate in public meetings and make public comments. 
While virtual meetings now feel like second nature for many, they are a somewhat new concept for municipal government meetings.
Under the Brown Act, officials and members of the public must be physically present at a meeting in order to participate. But, Gov. Gavin Newsom waived this requirement via a March 2020 executive order at the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Newsom s order also authorized local government bodies to hold their public meetings virtually.  ....
