RCMP investigating another scene linked to recent explosions

Share to Mar 12, 2021 1:50 PM Pete McIntyre RCMP in Penticton have issued an update on reports of loud explosions from various open areas around the city. Each of the explosions have occurred late in the evening, into the early morning hours, and police say it’s possible more explosions were heard over the past several weeks, but many weren’t reported. On Thursday (Mar. 11), Penticton RCMP’s General Investigation Unit, with assistance from the Explosives Disposal Unit, identified another scene linked to the explosion heard near Carmi Elementary School on Mar.8. The scene was near the creek bed at Industrial Ave East and Main St.

B C Covid cases jump; active cases soar past 5,000

Share to B.C. has recorded it’s highest single-day COVID-19 case count in weeks. In a prepared statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported another 648 cases of COVID-19 Friday (Mar. 12), including 39 in Interior Health. That brings the B.C. total to 86,867 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic arrived, spread out as follows: 20,282 Vancouver Coastal (up by 149) 50,861 Fraser Health (up by 372) 2,686 Island Health (up by 32) 7,777 Interior Health (up by 39) 5,101 Northern Health (up by 56) 160 Reside outside of Canada (unchanged) The active case load in B.C. has ballooned to 5,070, up 158 from Thursday. There are 255 people in hospital and 67 in intensive care.

Getting the homeless vaccinated a challenge

Share to Mar 12, 2021 3:32 PM Pete McIntyre With COVID-19 vaccinations rolling out, the homeless population has been especially difficult to locate and convince that they should get vaccinated against the virus. “It’s a difficult population to get to because they are not always there (shelters). We also know it is not an easy population to convince of some things, with some of the issues that go with homelessness and the lack of trust of society,” Interior Health Chief Medical Health officer Dr. Albert de Villiers told media Friday. “We are reaching in constantly to explain the benefits of the vaccine to people, that it’s not the government out to get them, all these conspiracy theory things,” de Villiers said.
