LAHORE: Jamaat Islami (JI) ameer Sirajul Haq has said politics in Pakistan has been an immensely profitable business for ruling elite, mafias and bureaucracy who siphon public money into their pockets by taking arbitrary decisions.
“Two percent elite are responsible for poverty and miseries of public. Pakistan is going backward because they (ruling elite) have occupied all the national resources and public wealth and are not ready to provide relief to the masses,” he said while addressing a gathering of party workers near Samar Bagh on Saturday, said a press release by a JI spokesman.
Siraj said corruption, bad governance, inflation and unemployment have become the trademarks of the PTI government during the last three years rule. He said the PTI, PML-N and the PPP had ruled over country on their turns but they refrained from strengthening the democratic institutions and provide genuine relief to the poor masses. ....

KP govt to launch poverty alleviation programme in ex-Fata

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to launch a poverty alleviation programme in the erstwhile Fata to benefit 10,000 poor and deserving families.
This was disclosed by provincial minister for Social Welfare Dr Hisham Inamullah Khan at a press conference.
He said the “Insaf Rizq-i-Halal” programme would aim to enable the tribespeople affected by militancy to stand on their feet. He said a comprehensive programme has been prepared after he tasked by KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and it would cost Rs1.27 billion.
Dr Hisham Inamullah, who was elected from Lakki Marwat which is close to some of the newly merged tribal districts, said in total about 30,000 tribespeople would receive some kind of support under the programme. ....

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to see rise in poverty and unemployment considering the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) growth projections for the country at 1.5 percent for the upcoming fiscal year of 2021/22 and 4.5 percent for FY23, economists said on Saturday.
The projected real GDP growth depends on the course of the pandemic, global recovery and vaccine rollout
Growth is expected to gradually improve, but only reach its medium-term potential of 5 percent in FY2024, later than envisioned in the first extended fund facility review, due to the large shock and the need for continued fiscal adjustment, which is expected to offset some of impact of the stronger private sector growth on the overall economy. ....
