Laura Shaver’s phone rings at all hours. It rings when she and her partner are dealing with mould in their apartment, interrupting texts to their landlord. Calls from Ontario come in at six in the morning, where it’s already an acceptable time to do business but Shaver is still asleep.
She’s just one person, but it’s Shaver’s job to answer the phone. As Providence Health’s peer navigator for opioid agonist therapy, or OAT, she’s the point person for people who use drugs and are seeking access to substitutes for opioids, a first-line treatment in British Columbia where the street drug supply has grown increasingly toxic. ....

Fiona Knight, 23, was on her way home one evening last January when suddenly, she became very scared. My neighbors and I had gone to collect firewood,  she says. Without warning, some young people from neighboring communities came out of the bush, armed with bows and arrows. They threatened us, and we ran away. But they chased after us together with their dogs. We lost our slippers. And we came back with nothing.
It was not the first time Knight had been threatened since she and her family of three sought safety in the Rhino refugee settlement in Northern Uganda, after fleeing violent conflict in South Sudan. Over the past few years, hundreds of thousands of South Sudanese refugees have arrived in the country, building huts on government-allocated land. Formerly remote communities soon found themselves next to a refugee settlement that could assum ....

Vice's Virtue agency pursues more 'culturally rich' work by combining APAC and MEA regions | Advertising

Virtue, the creative agency that sits under media company Vice, is combining its Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa regions under one leadership team, believing the two distinct regions have many similarities from cultural and business perspectives.
With this integration the agency’s Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Tokyo, Shanghai, Seoul, Busan, Jakarta, Bangalore and Mumbai teams will fall under one AMEA leadership team comprised of current and new staff from across the two regions. 
The merging of the two distinct regions follows the agency s decision to bring together North America and Latin America under one leadership team. Virtue s global president Rob Newlan believes that bringing teams together under an expanded region will lead to more culturally rich work for brands. ....
