NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Supplemental police patrols in the French Quarter, funded by the sales tax that passed last month, still hang in limbo as violent crime persists and the City calls in overtime officers.
“He bit one of the officers, I mean, this guy was really out of control but it was to the credit of the Task Force officer to see that trouble’s going on and call for backup,” Jeff Collins said. ....

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -Splashed across the national and international headlines this weekend, a shooting in the 300 block of Bourbon street that injured five.
“We heard the gunshots but our main focus was to make sure everyone was ok,” said one tourist.
“You hear the crime in the city but I just didn’t know in a tourist area it would get like that,” said tourist, Davis Summer.
Only for police, nearly 24 hours later to respond to another shooting at Bourbon and Canal that sent a woman to the hospital. “This needs to be stopped, needs to be more protection and the police,” said Lisa Norris. ....

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - In order to fund the “Blue Light Patrols” in the Quarter, the reinstatement of the quarter-cent sales tax is back on the ballot after the initial renewal failed in December.
Because of pandemic losses, the hospitality industry couldn’t fund the majority of supplemental patrols, ending the partnership with State Police this year.
Now, residents say they are beginning to feel that absence. ....

The French Quarter management district promised to keep the blue light patrols that everyone loves in the quarter going with private dollars from January through at least March. They failed to do that. Uh And so on Monday, we told you that we were doing everything in our power to fix that.
