CAIRO, July 11 (Xinhua) In a grand opening ceremony held on July 3, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi inaugurated the 3rd of July Naval Base on the country s northwest coast along the Mediterranean. It is considered the largest naval base in the most populous Arab country.
The new naval base, in addition to a string of military strongholds established in recent years, reveals a turn of the tide in the country s military strategy in recent years, military and political experts said.
Experts observed that the Egyptian military has strengthened its prowess by diversifying its weapon sources, establishing new military bases and naval fleets since Sisi took office in 2014. ....

This exercise brings together service members from each nation’s military in a combined effort to enhance interoperability in pursuit of common regional security goals. Service members from participating units plan, coordinate and conduct operations over land and at sea.

DUBAI: Despite occasional political frictions, military relations between the United States and Egypt remain strong, as CENTCOM signaled when it signed an MOU with the Egyptian Armed Forces on logistics and confirmed its participation in the Bright Star  exercise in Egypt this year.
“On April 27, the United States of America and the Arab Republic of Egypt signed a memorandum of understanding to facilitate reciprocal provision of military logistic support, supplies, and services,” according to a statement released by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. It noted that “while the MOU does not obligate either side to provide support, it does create a standing mechanism to ensure that U.S. and Egyptian military forces can effectively offer reimbursable support to each other when required. ....
