HOLDEN BEACH Hilda Edge Dores, 91, formerly of Whiteville, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021. Hilda was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Daniel Kermit “D.K.” Edge and Mattie Ward Edge. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Robert Dores; brother, Eugene Edge of New Bern; and three sisters, Marietta Edge O’Donald and Yvonne Edge Weeks, both of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Betty Edge (Tedder) Sealey of Whiteville. She is survived by two sisters, Sandra Edge Mihal of Wilmington and Nancy Edge (Duncan) Forrest of Holden Beach. Hilda worked at the Blue Jean Corporation for years as a CNA with Liberty Commons and Shoreland, both in Whiteville. ....
Terry Lynn Garrison HOLDEN BEACH Terry Lynn Garrison, 62, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, unexpectedly passed away Friday, Feb. 26, 2021, at his home in Holden Beach. Terry Lynn Garrison was born April 13, 1958, to Farrell and Marie Cecil Garrison in High Point. He graduated from T. Wingate Andrews High School and received his bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. He enjoyed a 40-year career in industrial chemical sales, leaving behind a strong network of colleagues and clients. Terry brought a smile to everyone he came across. His slice of heaven was fishing in the ocean alongside his wife, Patty, and their beloved corgi, Trigger. When his children and grandchildren visited Holden Beach, he would beamingly introduce the many passersby-turned-friends to his proudest accomplishments. ....
CALABASH Nancy M. Andrews, 76, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2021. Born Dec. 9, 1944, in New Hanover County, she was a daughter of the late Frederick Mote and Anna Nall Mote. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Goff. She was a graduate of New Hanover High School and went on to work in the banking industry in Charlotte and Richmond, Virginia. She retired as an assistant vice-president at the age of 51. After moving home to North Carolina, she became certified as a firefighter and EMT with the Ocean Isle Beach Fire Department. Surviving are her husband, Jesse Dan Andrews; and daughter, Beth A. Moore (Malcolm) of Calabash. ....
OAK ISLAND Sandra Jean Coutts, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021. Born Aug. 11, 1945, in Hotchkiss, Colorado, she was a daughter of the late Johnnie Minerich and Dwyla Jean Bennett Minerich. She had retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Surviving is a son, James Brett Coutts (Carolyn) of Grand Junction, Colorado; daughter, Tamra Shiflet (Clint) of St. John’s Island, South Carolina; and grandchildren, Sierra Coutts, Zach Coutts, Alexsi Shiflet and Chase Shiflet. John Dillard Pettigrew Jr. SUPPLY John Dillard Pettigrew Jr., 67, affectionally known as “Dad,” “John Boy,” and “Papaw,” passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family after fighting glioblastoma cancer for several months. He was born Dec. 2, 1953, in Gastonia, the son of the late John Dillard Pettigrew Sr. and June Thomas Pettigrew. He was also preceded in death by a son, William Thomas “Tommy” Pettigrew Sr. Mr. Pettigrew was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a supervisor for UPS in Charlotte for many years. He retired from the post office in Shallotte. He never met a stranger and loved being around people. He loved the outdoors, being around nature and drew strength for what God had made. ....
