Residents return to Brunswick Point in Leland after emergency repairs

After the completion of emergency repairs, and another inspection, all evacuated residents at a building in Brunswick Point Apartment Homes in Leland have been allowed to return, according to a news release from the town.
Last week, reports of two separate injuries at 1008 Hunterstone Drive prompted the Town of Leland to evacuate a portion of the building on April 14. Inspectors found structurally compromised stairways and started the condemnation process on all buildings at the complex but the issue was serious enough at one building to be a violation of the N.C. Fire Code.
First- and second-floor residents of the building were able to return to their units on Friday and third-floor residents were granted access on Tuesday, said Hilary Snow, communications officer.   ....

Leland condemns buildings at Brunswick Point Apartment Homes

The Town of Leland started the condemnation process for all 12 buildings within one apartment complex on Wednesday following structural issues on multiple stairways.
According to a press release from the town, it received two separate reports of injuries Wednesday morning at one building of Brunswick Point Apartment Homes, located at 1008 Hunterstone Drive, and evacuated certain units.
According to a report from Leland Fire and Rescue, a pizza delivery person fell through the concrete steps at the building on Tuesday night. There is another report of a woman falling through the steps the following day.
During inspections at Brunswick Point, Leland building inspectors identified structurally compromised stairways and issued notices of condemnation of the complex’s 11 other buildings. ....

LELAND, N.C. (WECT) - Repairs are underway at Brunswick Point Apartments, after residents in one building had to be evacuated Wednesday. In two separate incidents Wednesday, people using the stairwell were injured when the concrete stairs crumbled beneath them.
A regional manager for IRT (Independence Realty Trust), the publicly traded company that owns Brunswick Point Apartments, said displaced residents should be able to return to their apartments on Friday. The company was putting them up in a hotel while repairs to their stairwell were completed. ....
