TVA Chief Operating Officer Mike Skaggs Announces Intent To Retire Friday, May 14, 2021 Michael (Mike) D. Skaggs Michael (Mike) D. Skaggs, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Tennessee Valley Authority, has announced plans to retire from TVA in January 2022. To ensure a seamless transition, Mr. Skaggs will continue to serve until TVA selects a new chief operating officer. “Through his strong character, dedication and integrity, Mike has built a legacy that will endure for years to come. In addition to leading one of the nation’s top Operations organizations, he has helped lead the industry forward, always with a focus on the present and an eye toward the future,” said TVA CEO Jeff Lyash.
06 May 2021 Share The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is to provide engineering, operations and licensing support to help Kairos Power deploy its Hermes low-power demonstration reactor at the East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee under a newly announced collaboration agreement between the two companies. "Nuclear power is the key to fuelling our economy with reliable, affordable, and clean electricity, and it is critical to our national security," he said.

TVA also will need to extend the lifetime of its nuclear power, and adopt the use of small modular reactors (SMRs), said Jeffrey Lyash, its president and CEO.
Browns Ferry Begins Largest Turbine Upgrade Since Construction; Installs Innovative Fuel Assemblies In Reactor Monday, March 1, 2021 The Tennessee Valley Authority’s Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant Unit 2 started a scheduled refueling and maintenance outage this past weekend after generating more than 19 billion kilowatt-hours of carbon-free electricity in 654 days of reliable operation. This outage includes the largest scope of turbine deck work since original construction and innovations in fuel assembly components. All three of the unit’s low-pressure turbines will undergo a comprehensive replacement of major components, including new rotors, inner casings, steam piping and bellows and turbine supervisory instruments. These tasks will require the support of more than 500 additional outage workers and an incredible amount of heavy lifting – with 600 separate crane lifts of components such as rotors weighing up to 327,888 pounds and inner casings weighing up to 200,000 pounds.

Trio Charged With Kidnapping, Robbery After Man Says He Was Robbed, Placed In Trunk Of Vehicle Following Facebook Meetup Tuesday, January 19, 2021 Cary Paradis Three suspects are in facing kidnapping charges after they allegedly used Facebook to meet the victim and hold him hostage at gunpoint. On Saturday, police were notified of a kidnapping/robbery on Browns Ferry Road, and that the victim had been transported to Dayton Boulevard where he had been able to call for help. Once police arrived, they spoke to the victim, who said he had accepted a friend request on Facebook from Jamie Woughter, 43. The victim said the two had talked over the last day and decided to meet up.

(WAFF) - A two vehicle crash on Dec. 27 has claimed the life of a Harvest woman. Jennifer Spencer was fatally injured after her vehicle was hit head-on by another vehicle being driven by Eric King, 19 of Athens, on Huntsville Brownsferry Road near Lucas Ferry Road, just south of Athens. King’s vehicle crossed the center line and collided with Spencer’s. Both drivers were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment where Spencer later died.
