Stafford-based nonprofit gets storm relief donation


On March 29, locally based Attack Poverty received a $100,000 donation from Reliant Energy to help Fort Bend County s ongoing recovery efforts from Winter Storm Uri.
According to a news release from Reliant, the donation is aimed at helping to provide funding for plumbing and construction repair costs for 20 damaged homes in Fort Bend County, ensuring they are safe and secure as families continue to recover.
“The reality is that most of us were impacted somehow by the recent winter storm and likely know someone in need of home repair. As we connected with community members through food distribution lines and home assessments, the scale of damage caused by Winter Storm Uri became apparent,” Attack Poverty CEO Brandon Baca said in a news release. “As we mobilize resources in the communities we serve, we believe that we are better together through collaborative partnerships like that with Reliant.” ....

Some waited for hours to make sure they would get some food and water.
Hundreds lined up at this mass water giveaway at Missouri City Hall Complex. The line stretched down Texas Parkway and down Scanlin Road.
Not too far away, 4,000 meals, 2,000 liters of bottled water and 1,000 PPE kits were given away at the Friends of North Richmond and the Friends of North Rosenberg locations.
The need for food and water still so great for many Houston area families. Now, more than ever, especially after last week’s storm.
“And the storm hit, it hit Monday on us it woke us up from the cold. I’m thankful I said mama I’ll be back I’m going to get food for us she said okay, just blessed,” said Dianna Radka, of Richmond. ....
